Protective Face Coverings

Bolivar Guidelines for Protective Face Coverings

Below is Bolivar R-1 Schools’ Protective Face Covering recommendation that goes into effect on Monday, April 19th.

If you have any questions, please email communications@bolivarschoos.org or contact Bolivar Schools’ Central Office at 417-326-5291.

The district will continue to provide washable, cloth protective face coverings for all employees and students. We will also have disposable protective face coverings available for visitors. Everyone will also have the option of wearing their own protective face covering.

Bolivar Schools Protective Face Covering Update Beginning April 19:

  1. Move from "protective face covering mandated" to "protective face covering recommended."

  1. Any time the District has made changes to our settings or directives, we have tried to allow for a transition time.  We would allow for a transition time in this move, with full implementation beginning April 19th.

  1. The number of all cases and quarantines, in both the county and each building, will continue to be closely monitored. Protective face coverings could be required again should the numbers of both quarantined and active cases in a building reach 5% of each building’s total population.

  1. County data, among other factors, will determine for return of the protective face covering mandate.  If Polk County positivity is 7% or the daily rolling average is over 10 new cases per day, Bolivar Schools will reinstate the protective face coverings mandate at our schools.

  1. Buses and other public transportation will continue to wear protective face coverings due to the inability to socially distance.  Other factors will be considered as well.

  1. Students will continue to have protective face coverings with them in the event of interactions with health compromised students or staff. These times will not be up for discussion due to privacy rights.  At any time, staff or administration can ask or require students to place their protective face covering back on.

RECOMMENDATION ON WEARING PROTECTIVE FACE COVERINGS

Bolivar R-1 Schools is mindful of the evolving need for emergency measures to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. In consideration of the recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Missouri Department of Health, and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Bolivar R-1 Schools is adopting this emergency procedure, recommending the use of protective face coverings for all students, employees, and visitors of Bolivar R-1 Schools.

PROTECTIVE FACE COVERINGS

Two-ply masks help to stop the spread of the Coronavirus. Please note the change in our face-covering procedures.  Students are recommended to wear a two-ply mask rather than a single-ply face gaiter or face shield.  If a student has a medical condition that requires the use of a face shield, they will bring a note from his/her doctor to school and a list will be kept in the school office for contact tracing.  Protective face coverings must not include messages or images that distract from the learning environment as outlined in the student handbook. Protective face coverings that conceal the wearer’s entire face, such as ski masks, gas masks, costume masks, etc., will not be permitted.

STUDENTS

Until further action of Bolivar R-1 Schools, all students in kindergarten through the grade 12 are recommended to wear a protective face covering (a) while attending school or a school function in any school building, facility, or other area of a school campus, and (b) required to wear when riding in school-provided transportation. All recommended protective face coverings must cover the nose and mouth of the student. This procedure applies to students waiting outside school buildings before and after school and to students waiting at bus stops. Students are recommended to wear protective face coverings at all times except for the following:

  • Students may remove protective face coverings for eating or drinking.

  • Students may remove protective face coverings when appropriate social distancing measures are in place as determined by a school administrator

  • Students may be exempted from this procedure by the school principal due to a documented medical condition of the student.

  • Students may remove protective face coverings on a case-by-case basis for specific instructional needs and other activities, as determined by a school administrator, in which case the school administrator will utilize appropriate social distancing measures.

  • Students may be exempted from this procedure due to special behavioral or individualized needs as determined by the school administrator or Director of Special Services.

Students who refuse to wear a protective face covering on a school bus or district transportation shall be subject to discipline under Board Policy JFCC on student conduct while on school transportation.
