sub training

The Bolivar R-1 School District has announced an increase in the daily pay rate for substitute teachers to $120, effective November 1st, from the previous rate of $100. This adjustment is part of a district-wide effort to address challenges in securing enough substitute teachers, a need that has grown recently. By raising the pay, the district hopes to better support current substitutes and attract new ones.

Superintendent Dr. Michael Methvin shared his enthusiasm for the change, noting that the increase reflects the district's commitment to providing quality education and acknowledges the critical role substitutes play. "Our goal is to provide an exceptional education for all students, and our substitutes are essential to meeting that goal every day. We are thrilled to be able to offer a competitive rate that reflects our appreciation for their dedication and hard work," he stated.

With this new rate, Bolivar R-1 becomes one of the highest-paying districts in the area for substitutes. The district hopes the increase will encourage local community members, retired educators, and other qualified individuals to consider substitute teaching.

To qualify as a substitute, applicants need either 36 college credit hours or a 20-hour certification course from the Missouri Department of Secondary Education. The next training is on November 14th from 5:00–7:00 PM at the district’s central office. For more details, visit www.bolivarschools.org, stop by the district office at 524 W.
