Four Bolivar High School seniors have been awarded the highly coveted Hagan Scholarship, a nationwide need-based merit scholarship that helps students achieve their college and career goals debt-free. This prestigious award is designed to support students with the financial means to attend college and graduate without the burden of overwhelming debt.
BHS seniors Abigail Hamann, Madelynn Vahle, Bryse Coffman, and Maddux Nesmith will receive the Hagan Scholarship. They each have a potential for $155,000 in scholarship funds, for a grand total of $620,000 between the four of them.
The Hagan Scholarship provides recipients with $2,000 to help cover essential items needed to attend college and up to $7,500 per semester for up to eight consecutive semesters. In addition to the financial support, recipients gain access to various resources, including free workshops, Schwab brokerage accounts, and opportunities to study abroad—giving them a practical understanding of critical life skills often not covered in the school curriculum.
“We are incredibly proud of these students for their hard work and dedication,” said Alana Shockley, College and Career Counselor through rootEd at BHS. “The Hagan Scholarship is a game-changer for students who might not otherwise have the financial means to pursue higher education. These students are being equipped with the tools and resources they need to thrive, and we look forward to seeing them succeed in their college journeys and beyond!”
The Hagan Scholarship has impacted students nationwide, with scholars attending 637 colleges and universities across 49 states and the District of Columbia. Furthermore, Hagan Scholars have participated in study abroad programs in 58 countries, broadening their horizons and gaining valuable global experiences.
In addition to the undergraduate award, Hagan Scholars also have the opportunity to apply for the Hagan Graduate Scholarship, which provides up to $7,500 per semester for up to four additional semesters of graduate or professional school.
