Banner Receives Prestigiuos Naval Reserve Officers' Training Corps Scholarship
Bolivar High School senior Chapel Banner has been awarded a prestigious four-year Navy Reserve Officers' Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship through an Individual Scholarship Reservation (ISR). Commander Lambert selected Banner directly after a rigorous application and interview process, and Banner joins an elite group of about 100 students nationwide chosen through the competitive ISR pathway this year.
The NROTC scholarship covers full college tuition and mandatory fees at any approved university, alongside a book allowance, monthly living stipend, uniforms, and authorized educational support. Several participating colleges also offer additional incentives to ISR scholarship recipients, such as the University of Missouri, which covers the recipient's first year of room and board. An Immediate Scholarship Reservation is especially significant because it recognizes top-tier candidates early in the scholarship cycle, securing a four-year scholarship before the standard national selection process concludes. Selection reflects exemplary academic performance, outstanding leadership potential, high moral character, and physical readiness.
"Earning this scholarship and having the opportunity to serve my country while pursuing my degree is an incredible honor," said Banner. "Receiving the ISR provided me and my family with early clarity for my college and career decisions. I am deeply grateful to Commander Lambert, my family, and my teachers at Bolivar High School for encouraging me every step of the way."
While earning his academic degree, Banner will complete naval science coursework, physical training, leadership development, unit activities, and summer training maneuvers. Upon graduation, he will officially commission as an officer in the U.S. Navy.
"We are exceptionally proud of Chapel for achieving this extraordinary milestone," said Bolivar High School Principal Dr. Jason Blair. "An ISR selection speaks volumes about a student's work ethic, character, and leadership capabilities. Chapel represents the very best of Bolivar High School, and we are confident he will excel as he prepares to serve our country."
Through the NROTC program, recipients build vital skills in leadership, teamwork, communication, discipline, accountability, and decision-making—qualities that support both active military service and long-term professional success.
